Sergio Monteiro, piano
Born in Niterói, Brazil, the Steinway Artist is currently the Director of Piano Studies at the Wanda L. Bass School of Music (Oklahoma City University). He began his musical journey at age four and solidified his training at the National School of Music in Rio de Janeiro under the guidance of Myrian Dauelsberg. His international career was propelled in 2003 when he won the 2nd Martha Argerich International Piano Competition.
Monteiro holds a doctorate from the Eastman School of Music (USA), where he studied under Nelita True, and was a member of the prestigious International Piano Academy Lake Como in Italy. He has collaborated with major orchestras and world-renowned conductors such as Charles Dutoit and Rafael Frübeck de Burgos, performing across Europe and the Americas. Highlights of his artistic schedule include collaborations with the Dresden Philharmonic, the Lübeck Philharmonic, and the Toronto Symphony, with performances at world-class venues ranging from the Kremlin to the Kennedy Center.
Since 2015, Sérgio Monteiro has released eight albums under the prestigious Naxos label, exploring works by Henrique Oswald, Liszt, Mendelssohn, Louis Vierne, and Scarlatti.His recordings, which have already surpassed 20 million streams on Spotify, have received unanimous acclaim from specialized critics. His albums dedicated to Scarlatti stand out as highlights of the Naxos cycle, while his interpretation of Mendelssohn's youthful works was described as a "true revelation." More recently, his two cds on the complete works of Louis Vierne were celebrated as an "immense discovery" and a phonographic landmark.
