Peter Keates,
bass-baritone

Bass-Baritone Peter Keates has experienced success both as a performer and voice teacher. Originally from Chickasha, Oklahoma, he began his training at the University of Oklahoma where he earned a Bachelor of Musical Arts degree in vocal performance. He then went to the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of music where he completed the Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in vocal performance. During that time Keates spent two summers performing at the Opera Theater and Music Festival of Lucca, Italy. He was also a participant in the National Association of Teachers of Singing 2015 Intern Program.

Dr. Keates spent several years teaching voice at Wright State University and performing in the Cincinnati area. He recently moved to Oklahoma City where he taught voice at Oklahoma City University’s Wanda L. Bass School of Music.

His concert performances have included the title role in Mendelssohn’s Elijah, and the bass solos in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Bach’s St. John Passion, Fauré’s Requiem, Brahms Ein deutsches Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, and Janacek’s Glagolitic Mass. He has also performed roles such as Leporello in Don Giovanni, Sam in Trouble in Tahiti, Javert in Les Miserables, Colline in La Boheme, Don Magnifico in La Cenerentola, Dr. Dulcamara in L’elisir d’amore, Re di Scozia in Ariodante, Simone in Gianni Schicchi, and Son Beau-Pere in Le Pauvre Matelot.
